The Hall Lab at the University of Maryland

The Hall Lab combines computational biology and microbiology to answer fundamental, mechanistic questions about the functions performed by the human gut microbiome.

Research

We believe that there is an enormous potential to modulate the human gut microbiome to promote health. To achieve this goal, we are striving to achieve a better understanding of the biochemical functions performed by the human gut microbiome and how these related to gastrointestinal disease. Additionally, rational microbiome modulation requires precise measurements of microbiome activities.

Currently, our two major projects are focused on unraveling an important hepatobiliary-microbiome interaction and developing wearable devices to measure gut microbial metabolites in real time.
